Lucid Hits Monthly Sales Record in Netherlands With 12 EVs in March

Lucid Motors posted its best-ever monthly performance in the Netherlands last month, registering 12 vehicles in March, according to official data. The gain follows a sluggish start to the year, with just one vehicle delivered across January and February.

The Newark, California-based EV maker, which established its European headquarters in Amsterdam, sold a total of 48 cars in the country in 2024.

Lucid entered the Dutch market in late 2022. Its debut model, the Air sedan, starts at €88,000 ($94,900) for the base Pure trim while the top-tier Sapphire version is available for pre-order at €255,000 ($275,000).

In Europe, the brand is currently selling its vehicles in Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland. Additional European markets are expected to follow later this year.

New Strategy in Europe

As first reported by EV, Lucid is expanding its distribution strategy in Europe by incorporating importers and agency models alongside its existing retail footprint.

Speaking during the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call, the recently appointed interim CEO Marc Winterhoff said Lucid is “accelerating the growth of our retail footprint and market coverage in Europe,” and is introducing “additional distribution channels like importers and agency models for select countries in addition to our existing direct-to-consumer model.”

New Models

The company plans to roll out the Sapphire variant of the Air in Europe later this quarter. Its Gravity SUV is expected to debut in early 2026, with orders opening mid-2025. A more affordable midsize model, priced below $50,000, is scheduled to enter production in late 2026 and arrive in Europe the following year.

Kia led the Dutch overall vehicle market in March with 2,859 registrations (of which 1,137 EVs) but Tesla was the best selling among fully electric cars with 792 Model 3 and 734 Model Y units.

Battery-electric vehicles accounted for 35.5% of all new passenger car registrations in the Netherlands last month. Hybrids represented 46.8% of the market, while petrol-powered cars fell to a 16.5% share.

In the first quarter, Dutch EV registrations rose 7.9% year-on-year to 32,439 units, while hybrids reached 42,931 units. Petrol cars totaled 15,157 units over the same period.
