Lucid Hiring 85 Manufacturing Staff in Arizona as Second Shift Nears

Lucid Motors is expanding its manufacturing workforce in Arizona as it prepares to add a second production shift at its Casa Grande factory.

The EV maker faces two and a half critical months at its US factory and its Saudi assembly site, where partially built vehicles from Arizona are completed for delivery to Middle Eastern markets.

Lucid had originally guided for “approximately 20,000” vehicles this year, but trimmed the target in early August to between 18,000 and 20,000 when it reported second-quarter earnings.

To avoid missing its production guidance, Lucid needs to fully produce 8,034 vehicles in the fourth quarter to reach the low end of that range — more than doubling the third-quarter pace.

As of Friday, the company had 676 open positions.

Of those, 148 are tied to its Manufacturing Division, and 85 are based at the Casa Grande site, known internally as AMP-1.

According to job listings reviewed by EV, many of the Casa Grande roles reference “2nd Shift.”

The roles include Production Team Lead, Repair Supervisor, Production Supervisor (BIW), Dimensional Quality Technician, Die Setter (Stamping), and Tandem Press Operator.

Other positions for the additional shift include Sr. Manufacturing Engineer – Battery Manufacturing Engineer – End of Line, Jr. Manufacturing Technician, and Quality Technician.

In Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah Economic City, the company is hiring senior engineers and maintenance staff for diagnostics, paint, and powertrain operations.

Interim Chief Executive Officer Marc Winterhoff said earlier this month that Lucid had “made preparations, including the addition of a second manufacturing shift, to finish 2025 strong.”

Head of Global Communications Nick Twork wrote earlier this week on X that the “second shift at AMP-1 hasn’t yet started,” without giving a date.

In its latest update, Lucid reported 3,891 fully built vehicles for the third quarter, up 115% from a year earlier.

Another 1,000 units were assembled short of completion and will be shipped to Saudi Arabia for final assembly. Those will count toward fourth-quarter results.

Lucid’s Casa Grande plant builds the Air luxury sedan and began producing the Gravity SUV earlier this year.

Drone footage from late September showed more than 2,000 Gravity units parked around the facility, signaling an ongoing ramp after supply shortages disrupted output earlier in 2025.

Winterhoff praised employees when sharing the third quarter results for record production “despite facing supply constraints, including magnet shortages, and other unexpected challenges.”

Last week, Beijing tightened export controls on rare earth materials and permanent magnets.

Chinese authorities said foreign companies must now secure government approval to export rare earth magnets or semiconductor materials that either contain 0.1% or more Chinese-sourced rare earths, or are produced using Chinese mining, processing, or magnet-making technologies.

Lucid is expected to provide an update on the second-shift launch and production outlook when it reports third-quarter earnings on November 5.
