Lucid Gravity Offers ‘Best Public Charging Experience,’ MotorTrend Says

EV maker Lucid Motors said on Tuesday that its Gravity SUV model has been named ‘Best Public Charging Experience’ by the MotorTrend Best Tech Awards.

Created a year ago, the awards recognize the “best technologies, features, and services” in the automotive industry based on thorough testing and evaluation.

The model — which can fit up to 7 adults — is equipped with a 123 kWh battery providing a range of up to 450 miles — equivalent to 724 km.

The range rating for Lucid Gravity when equipped with 20”F/21”R wheels and configured as a two-row, five-seat vehicle is 450 miles for Grand Touring and 337 miles (542 km) for the Touring version.

The SUV is the California-based company’s second model and the first one to be equipped with the native North American Charging Standard (NACS) port.

NACS corresponds to the uniform electric vehicle (EV) charging connector first deployed by Tesla.

With the NACS system, the Lucid Gravity can be directly plugged into over 25,000 Tesla Superchargers, thousands of Electrify America Direct Current (DC) fast-charging connectors, among other charging providers.

Both Lucid models gained access to Tesla’s network on the last day of July 2025.

On Tuesday’s statement, the company has also highlighted that its ‘Range Spider’ Route Planner feature and its Energy App allow drivers to plan their trips by displaying estimated range based on historical efficiency data and identifying nearby public fast-charging options.

Lucid Gravity’s Backlog

In late September, Lucid listed the first Gravity Grand Touring vehicles for immediate delivery on its inventory page, despite the brand having stated that it was “not a demand-related development.”

By then, a Lucid spokesperson reiterated that the firm still has a “substantial order backlog” for the Gravity model, due to “temporary production constraints” which “resulted in a few vehicles that couldn’t be matched to specific customer orders.”

In November, orders opened for the entry-level Gravity Touring variant, with select configurations available for delivery within two weeks.

As of Tuesday, Lucid continues to feature several units of the Touring and Grand Touring trims in its inventory page.

The Lucid Gravity Touring’s prices start from $79,900 in the US, whereas the Grand Touring is available from $94,900.

Last month, the publication Car and Driver named both Lucid models to its 10Best lists for 2026.

The SUV and the sedan models were included in the list after Car and Driver spent two weeks driving “more than 100 new cars, trucks, vans and SUVs.”

Production Ramp Up Barriers

The company faced several hurdles throughout 2025, which affected its planned production ramp-up of the Lucid Gravity.

As mentioned by the company’s interim CEO Marc Winterhoff, in December, the first obstacle corresponded to a magnet shortage in the second quarter.

Over the following months, a fire at the largest aluminum supplier obstructed production.

Lastly, a chip shortage followed soon after, which not only impacted the company but also the broader industry.

In December, a Lucid spokesperson said that the model would outsell the debut Lucid Air.

“While we don’t break out model mix, Lucid Gravity deliveries are already in the thousands and will represent the majority of customer deliveries in Q4,” the spokesperson added.

Third Model

Lucid plans to unveil its third model “somewhere mid-2026”, as stated by the firm’s Chief Financial Officer Taoufiq Boussaid.

The CFO reiterated last month that he is “trying to have an exclusivity for analysts and investors”, attempting to convince management to demonstrate the model at the upcoming Capital Markets Day, which Lucid will host later this quarter.

The iteration should be launched under its new mid-sized platform, which will underpin the upcoming three new vehicles — including an off road.
