Lucid EVs Headed to Saudi Embassies in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has initiated procurement tenders to ship Lucid electric vehicles (EVs) to its embassies and consulates across Asia, South America, Africa and Europe.

According to public procurement listings, the Ministry has issued tenders for the shipment of Lucid vehicles to diplomatic missions.

Countries include Türkiye, Jordan, Hungary, Brazil, Egypt, the Philippines, Tunisia, and Bangladesh — as initially shared by X user ‘LucidOasis.

The number of vehicles allocated to each location varies, with some embassies scheduled to receive as many as five units, according to procurement tenders published on May 30.

Ayar Third Investment Company, an affiliate of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), currently holds a stake of roughly 60% in the EV maker.

When investing in Lucid, PIF said the EV maker will “support the Saudi Green Initiative’s imperative to ensure 30% of new car sales in Saudi Arabia are electric by 2030.”

The electric vehicle maker, backed byPIF, plans to enter several new Middle Eastern markets later this year, according to interim CEO Marc Winterhoff.

“We have started Abu Dhabi and we’re looking into Qatar and other additional markets coming very soon,” Winterhoff told Bloomberg at the Saudi-U.S. Investment Forum in Riyadh.

Lucid Motors last week shared new images from its AMP-2 facility in Saudi Arabia, showing progress toward shifting from semi-knockdown (SKD) assembly to full vehicle production.

The site covers about 1.3 million square meters and is expected to produce up to 155,000 vehicles per year.

Lucid Motors recently promoted Faisal Sultan, its chief for the Middle East, to President of the region as the company gears up for further expansion across the Gulf.

Lucid is also continuing its expansion in Europe. During the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call in February, Winterhoff said Lucid was “accelerating the growth of our retail footprint and market coverage” across the region.

Cláudio Afonso founded CARBA in early 2021 and launched the news blog EV later that year. Following a 1.5-year hiatus, he relaunched EV in April 2024. In late 2024, he also started AV, a blog dedicated to the autonomous vehicle industry.
