Lucid Delivers First Saudi-Assembled EVs for Diplomatic Use in 19 Countries

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Trade has received the first batch of Saudi-assembled Lucid Motors vehicles, a month after it first issued procurements for the brand’s electric vehicles.

The first tender documents were published at the end of May and covered shipments of Lucid vehicles to embassies and consulates.

The first batch of countries includes Türkiye, Jordan, Hungary, Brazil, Egypt, the Philippines, Tunisia and Bangladesh.

A few weeks ago, an update from X user LucidOasis indicated that the programme had been extended to 11 additional countries.

The new batch includes Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Greece, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

On X, the Saudi General Authority of Foreign Trade wrote that the first vehicles were handed over amid the visit of His Excellency the Deputy Governor of the General Authority for Foreign Trade for Shared Services, Mr. Nasser Al-Dughaither.

“Visit by His Excellency the Deputy Governor of the General Authority for Foreign Trade for Shared Services, Mr. Nasser Al-Dughaither, to the Lucid Motors factory to support the enhancement of the Authority’s foreign offices and commercial attachés, and to receive the first batch of vehicles manufactured in Saudi Arabia,” the post reads.

The EV maker is assembling both its Air and Gravity models at the facility in King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), which opened in September 2023.

However, it is now upgrading the site from semi-knockdown (SKD) assembly to full vehicle production, with an eventual capacity of up to 150,000 units per year.

Faisal Sultan, recently promoted to President for the Middle East, said on Thursday that deliveries of the brand’s second model, the Gravity SUV, are “just around the corner” for the kingdom.

According to the executive, Lucid will be launching its midsize platform in late 2026 or early 2027. Sultan also stated that the brand will be “manufacturing it within the kingdom.”

The company has been expanding its retail presence in the Gulf, opening its first showroom in Abu Dhabi last week. This is the fourth Lucid store in the Middle East.

Until now, the closest Lucid studio for Abu Dhabi customers was in Dubai’s City Walk, 140 km (87 miles) away. The company also operates two permanent studios in Saudi Arabia — one in Riyadh and another in Jeddah.
