Lucid Air Breaks Cross-Country Record: 2,800 Miles with Only 7 Charges

As range anxiety remains one of the most significant headaches to faster electric vehicle (EV) adoption, a new record was broken on a road trip that crossed the United States.

Two EV enthusiasts, Julius Wilhelm and Janek Metzner, recently drove a 2022 Lucid Air — one of the most efficient electric vehicles — from Los Angeles to New York, covering 2,800 miles with just seven charging stops.

Wilhelm and Metzner, who publish a weekly newsletter focused on EVs, chose Lucid’s flagship model, the Air sedan, for the trip. The luxury EV is equipped with a 112 kWh battery, allowing for extended range and fewer stops.

“This trip shows what’s possible with today’s technology, but it also highlights the work still to be done,” said Julius Wilhelm.

According to Motor Intelligence, Lucid Motors sold 660 vehicles in the United States in August, following sales of 608 in June and 697 units in July.

In mid-August, Lucid started selling demo vehicles in the country with hundreds or a dozen of thousands of miles driven with prices starting at $56,998 — about $13,000 below the starting price of the cheaper variant of the Air sedan.

With 1,728 vehicles produced in the first quarter and 2,110 vehicles in the second one, the California-based EV maker expects to produce 5,162 vehicles in the second half of the year.
