Lucid Air and Tesla Model 3 Top EV Range Rankings, Study Shows

According to a range test conducted by the Norwegian Automobile Federation (NAF) and the media outlet Motor.no, the Grand Touring trim of the Lucid Air ranked first among 27 electric vehicles tested in the Scandinavian country.

The driving range of the model was 130 km short of the 960 km it advertises, making it the model with the largest negative deviation (-13%) from the range claimed by the brand.

The Grand Touring variant of the U.S. brand’s luxury sedan is priced from NOK 1,309,000 ($129,370). Prices for the entry-level trim begin at NOK 950,000 ($93,890).

However, at a range of 832 km, the model set a record-high among EVs in Norway.

According to EU-EVs, Lucid registered one unit of its Air sedan in Norway between January and May. In 2024, the EV maker recorded 5 vehicles in the market.

The previous record holder of the highest driving range was Tesla’s Model S, which reached 672 km in 2023. That record has now been broken by several models.

The Tesla Model 3 reached 729 km, 27km above the claimed range and it was the best ranked model within its price segment. The sedan starts at NOK 324,990 ($32,120).

Meanwhile, the recently refreshed Model Y drove 653 km, which is 11.4% more than the 586km WLTP official range for the Long Range all-wheel drive version. Prices start from NOK 444,990 ($43,980).

The test also revealed that the SUV had the highest positive deviation from its official range estimate — at 11%.

Tesla’s new car registrations in Norway soared 212.5% year over year in May, reaching 2,600 vehicles. From those, 2,346 were Model Ys and 253 were Model 3s.

The BMW iX achieved 695 km, exceeding its official range of 668 km. According to the test, Porsche Macan’s cited range was exactly the same as it delivered: 544 km.

Among Chinese electric vehicles, the BYD Tang exceeded its claimed range of 530 km by reaching 562 km, while the Sealion 7 SUV’s range was also 15 km above the 502 it promised.

The Sealion 7 family SUV is priced from NOK 469,900 ($45,950), while Tang, the brand’s debut model in the Nordic market, is currently priced from 699,900 ($69,170).

The Zeekr 7X claimed a range of 541 km and reached 8% above, at 585 km. The Geely-backed brand started deliveries of the 7X SUV in Norway last month.

The 7X starts from 500,087 NOK ($49,420). The model was launched in China last September — in its domestic market, the EV exceeded 30,000 units delivered in just 75 days.

The Polestar 4 SUV outperformed its 600 km estimate by achieving 624 km. The model’s prices begin at NOK 549,900 ($54,350) in the Norwegian market.

Its most expensive model, the Polestar 3 (which is priced from NOK 719,900, or $71,150), was 28 km shorter of the 695 km range it claimed.
