Speaking to CarBuzz at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Peter Rawlinson, CEO of the luxury electric vehicle (EV) maker Lucid Motors, reiterated the company’s ambition to become a volume manufacturer.

“Do not think of Lucid as a niche luxury car company. We’re gonna be huge. I want us to sell a million units a year and have a much bigger impact than that,” Rawlinson told CarBuzz.

In the second quarter of the year, the company delivered 2,394 vehicles while producing 2,110 units of its model Lucid Air.

On May 6, amid the report of the first quarter financial results, Lucid said it expected to produce “approximately 9,000 vehicles” in 2024 as the production of its second model, the Gravity, is planned for the end of the year.

On the same day, the chief executive announced that the company’s third and cheapest model, a midsize vehicle, will enter production in late 2026, with an expected price of around $48,000.

“We need to get a midsized vehicle, our volume vehicle price at around, we believe, about $48,000, get that into production and is on schedule for production for late 2026,” he stated.

Rawlinson teased that the model will be “the big one, the one that’s going to be really exciting”, “But wait until our midsize comes out late 2026. That’s when we’ll have a car, $48,000, $50,000 and that is the big one, the one that’s going to be really exciting.”

On August 5, Lucid will publish its second-quarter financial results and it is expected an update from the management on the annual production guidance.

Drone footage captured last Saturday by a Lucid enthusiast revealed approximately 800 vehicles parked in one of the parking lots of the company’s factory in Casa Grande, Arizona.

Earlier this month, the company introduced a new leasing incentive of $7,500 Air Credit for customers in the United States. This offer is in addition to the existing $4,000 bonus available for inventory vehicles.
