Jaguar‘s chief creative officer, Gerry McGovern, presented the brand’s concept model ‘Type 00’ on Monday, which, much like the company’s recent rebranding, sparked a wave of comments across social media.
The British automaker, owned by India’s Tata Motors since 2008, plans to introduce its “first” fully electric vehicle one year from now with deliveries following in 2026. The model will be part of a range of electric vehicles with starting prices above $100,000.
Jaguar’s Upcoming EV Models
Jaguar announced earlier this week that its first new-generation production car will be an electric four-door GT, and —although most of the specs were not unveiled— the brand announced some ambitious numbers.
Built in the UK on Jaguar’s Electric Architecture (JEA), the car is expected to achieve a range of up to 770km under WLTP standards and 430 miles under EPA standards. The model will also support fast charging, adding up to 321km (200 miles) in approximately 15 minutes.
In his keynote, held earlier this week, the chief creative officer of the 89-year-old brand reaffirmed that, despite the “large wheels,” there will be “no range anxiety.”
“Clearly, our creativity doesn’t conform. So why should our technology? Our new range of vehicles, unlike many others, will use a completely unique electric platform. Even with these large wheels, there is no range anxiety with an impressive 430 miles,” McGovern said. “These will be the most powerful Jaguars ever and will be capable of producing 1,000 horsepower”.

Lucid Air Sapphire
Lucid, a luxury EV brand that has Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund as its major shareholder, will be one of Jaguar’s rivals in producing high-end electric vehicles. However, that might not be the only connection between the brands.
The luxury variant of Lucid’s debut model, the Lucid Air, started deliveries in October 2023 and has Tesla’s Model S Plaid as one of its competitors. Unveiled last year, the model delivers 1,234 horsepower and 1,430 lb-ft of torque, achieving a 0-60 mph time of 1.89 seconds—just below the Model S Plaid’s 1.99-second.
Lucid Air Sapphire vs Jaguar’s 2025 EV Model
Jaguar announced that its debut model will offer a range just three miles shorter than Lucid’s Air Sapphire and will also feature four-digit maximum horsepower. Regarding the charging rate, Lucid claims that its model can add up to 248km in about 15 minutes versus the 321 km Jaguar promises for its first EV model under the new phase.
| Feature | Lucid Air Sapphire | Jaguar Electric GT (2025) |
|---|---|---|
| Max Power | 1,234 hp | 1,000 hp |
| 0-60 mph | 1.89 seconds | Not disclosed |
| Top Speed | 205 mph | Not disclosed |
| EPA Range | 427 miles | 430 miles |
| Charging Rate | Up to 248 km in ~15 minutes | 321 kms in 15 minutes |
Earlier this year, and focusing now on the battery technology, Lucid’s CEO shared a comparative chart showcasing the miles per gallon gasoline-equivalent (MPGe) performance of the newly launched 2025 Lucid Air sedan against three major competitors. The 2025 versions of Lucid models, which bring several improvements, allow the vehicle to achieve 5.0 miles per kilowatt-hour (kWh) and 146 MPGe, something the closest competitor would need seven years to match, according to the chart shared by the executive.

‘Copy Nothing’ vs. ‘Compromise Nothing’
A few hours after Jaguar released its commercial announcing its rebranding, Lucid responded to the campaign’s “Copy nothing” slogan on X by posting an image of its $249,000 Lucid Air Sapphire with the tagline: “Compromise nothing.”

Lucid’s Licensing Talks
Over the last months, Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson has mentioned multiple times that the company has been in licensing talks with carmakers to potentially supply its tech to them.
In June, speaking at the Evercore ISI Annual Summit, the chief executive revealed that the company was in discussions with several companies regarding potential licensing deals for its technology. There, Rawlinson mentioned Jaguar as one of the candidates where Lucid’s technology would fit.
“If you look at the technology we build today, it’s still high performance. It’s not family car tech. It suits something like a Jaguar or Maserati or a Lexus or something like that or maybe a Lincoln. It’s sort of high-end performance cars, executive cars,” he stated before teasing the upcoming platform which
“But where it gets really exciting is the tech that we’re developing for our midsized platform. We’re embodying all our expertise, all our learning, we talked about learning, real focus on cost down,” Rawlinson said.
“We’re looking at licensing our technology to other automakers who need it”, Rawlinson added. “Maybe some of those don’t recognize that they need it yet or believe that this is easier than they can do it in-house. It’s not easy. This is the result of six or seven years of blood, sweat, and tears.”
Lucid x Aston Martin
In 2023, Aston Martin signed a supply agreement with Lucid Motors for electric vehicle powertrain and battery systems, valued at over $450 million. The deal covers four upcoming models, including a crossover and a hypercar, with the first EV initially scheduled for release in 2025.
However, Aston Martin has delayed the launch of its first electric vehicle by a year, citing weak customer demand. The model is now expected to debut in 2026, with deliveries starting in 2027.
Jaguar’s Controversial Rebrand
Jaguar’s rebranding campaign has generated a lot of controversy last month. The promotional video released last week showed models in vibrant outfits but notably omitted any appearance of Jaguar cars. In the comment section, the company defended the rebrand as “a renaissance.”
Speaking with Sky News, Managing Director Rawdon Glover said earlier this week the company has “certainly gathered an awful lot of attention over the last few weeks, but now I think its really important to talk about the vehicle.”
“We absolutely don’t want to alienate any of our loyal fans,” Glover added later on. Here’s the commercial shared by Jaguar last month.
