Li Auto Weekly Sales Dip 30% From Late March to 6,200 NEVs, Expands to Philippines

Li Auto registered 6,200 vehicles from March 31 to April 6, a decline of 29.5% from the 8,800 units listed in the previous week and the lowest since February, according to data revealed on Tuesday on Chinese social media.

Production and deliveries in China’s auto industry were affected by the three-day Ching Ming Festival holiday from April 4 to 6.

Li Auto’s official partner, HomeAuto Inc., announced earlier on Tuesday that it is launching in the Southeast Asian market of the Philippines, local media outlet The Manila Times reported. Li Auto will introduce the L7 and L9 SUVs, both hybrid models built on the company’s EREV platform.

Competitors

BYD recorded 45,100 vehicle registrations during the period, marking a 25.3% drop from 60,400 the previous week. Stellantis-backed Leapmotor also saw a sharp decline, with registrations falling 37% to 5,100 units from 8,100.

Tech giant Xiaomi recorded 5,100 vehicles, down 34.6% week over week — and the first time its registrations fell below 6,000 units since early February.

Tesla experienced the sharpest decline, with sales plunging 82.5% from 20,600 units in the final week of March to just 3,600. The drop aligns with Tesla’s usual strategy of prioritizing exports from its Shanghai plant early in the quarter, temporarily reducing domestic deliveries in the first weeks of each quarter.

In contrast, XPeng increased weekly registrations by 21% to 7,500 units, up from 6,200, making it the top-selling new energy vehicle (NEV) startup in China.

From January 1 to April 6, BYD sold about 668,500 units in China, while Tesla registered 137,600. Li Auto and XPeng were both just under 100K, with 97,200 and 95,900 registrations respectively.

The Beijing-based brand, best known for its focus on extended-range electric vehicles (EREV), entered the fully electric market last year with the launch of its first battery-electric vehicle (BEV), the Li Mega MPV.

The company’s L series, which features the hybrid models L6, L7, L8 and L9, places Li Auto as one of the major EREV automakers in China. Deliveries of the L series have surpassed 1 million units last week.

This Tuesday, Li Auto announced that the cumulative deliveries of its Li L6 model have exceeded 240,000 units, having launched exactly a year ago. Prices for the SUV start at 249,800 yuan ($34,170).

The company is now expanding its lineup, as it plans to unveil in July the Li i8, a fully electric SUV and its second BEV model. The Li i6 SUV is expected to debut later this year, as confirmed during a March earnings call.

In a notable tech move, Li Auto also announced it will open-source its in-house operating system, Li Halo OS, becoming the first automaker globally to do so.

March and Q1 Results

The Beijing-based company announced Tuesday that it delivered 36,674 vehicles in March, a 26.5% increase compared to the same month last year.

For the first quarter of 2025, total deliveries reached 92,864 units, up 15.5% year over year and in line with the company’s target of 88,000 to 93,000 vehicles, announced during its fourth-quarter earnings report in mid-March.

During its latest earnings call, Li Auto projected first-quarter revenue between 23.4 billion yuan ($3.2 billion) and 24.7 billion yuan ($3.4 billion), which implies a decline of 3.5% to 8.7% year over year.

Sales Team Restructuring

Last week, Chinese media outlet 36Kr reported that Li Auto is restructuring its sales team as part of its push to achieve 700,000 vehicle deliveries in 2025. The Chinese brand is drawing from “regional management experiences of internacional companies such as Apple”.

Li Auto also announced it operates 500 retail stores and 502 service centers across more than 150 cities in China. The automaker is accelerating the rollout of its charging infrastructure, with over 2,000 supercharging stations and more than 11,000 chargers nationwide.
