Li Auto, renowned for its vehicles equipped with range-extending fuel tanks, confirmed on Monday to introduce its fourth and cheaper SUV model, the L6, scheduled for release on April 18th.

Earlier in the day, rumours were circulating on Chinese social media that the manufacturer was currently freezing new hirings, slashing budgets by over 30 percent and even considering layoffs after decreasing its annual sales target from 800,000 units. Li Auto commented that neither the layoffs nor the significant budget reduction are true, as reported by the local media Sina.

In the second half of the year, Li Auto will be releasing another three pure electric SUV models with 5C charging and all-wheel drive. In the last earnings call, in late February, Li Auto’s Executive Director and President Donghui Ma guaranteed that those models will be “very, very competitive”.

Ma commented that the company “would like to focus exclusively on over 200,000 yuan family markets globally” adding that the strategy is “to continue to dive deep into this market, create a brand, and expand the market share”.
