Li Auto Deliveries Surge 17% in May, Topping 40,000 Units

Li Auto reported on Sunday that it delivered 40,856 vehicles in May, representing a 20.4% increase compared to April’s 33,939 units and a 16.7% jump from the 35,020 units sold a year ago.

After a slight decline in April that interrupted a growth streak since the start of 2025, the brand rebounded in May with its highest monthly deliveries so far this year.

Li Auto, which is mostly focused on extended-range electric vehicles (EREV), will launch in July its second battery electric (BEV) model — the Li i8.

The Beijing-based carmaker reported its first quarter earnings results last week, posting 5.3 billion yuan ($732.9 million) of gross profit, 0.6% higher than a year ago.

The brand said it aims to deliver between 123,000 and 128,000 vehicles for the second quarter.

Considering it delivered 33,939 units and April and 40,856 in May, the automaker expects June deliveries to range between 48,205 and 53,205 units.

Last month, local media outlet 21jingji reported that Li Auto lowered its annual delivery target from 700,000 units to 640,000 — from which 120,000 are expected to be BEVs.

According to the outlet, the guidance was lowered mainly due to weaker than expected orders for the revamped Li L6, its best-selling — and less expensive — model.

Year to date, Li Auto has delivered 167,659 vehicles, meaning that they completed 26.2% of the updated target. In 2024, the company delivered 500,508 vehicles.

In July, the company will launch the fully electric i8, its second BEV model, a mid-to-large-size SUV that will integrate next-generation LiDAR powered by Nvidia’s Thor chip.

According to the brand, the model will come standard with lithium ternary batteries that support 5C fast-charging.

In early May, the automaker launched the revamped versions of its L-series models — the Li L6, Li L7, Li L8 and Li L9 — which is made exclusively of EREVs. Deliveries in China started shortly after.

The refreshed version of the company’s Li L6 reached 10,000 cumulative deliveries on May 26. The SUV is Li Auto‘s best-selling model, with prices beginning at $249,800 ($34,670).

From January 1 to April 30, the model represented nearly half (48.2%) of the carmaker’s sales, data compiled by CnEvPost shows.

Founder and CEO Li Xiang announced on last week’s earnings call that the brand is planning to launch more affordable models, “once annual revenue from our current SUV lineup hits 300 billion yuan ($41.6 billion).”

According to the chief executive, the company “will launch affordably priced multi-purpose vehicles and sedan models based on market demand.”
