LG Forms Partnership with Charging Startup ChargePoint

LG Electronics announced on Tuesday that has formed a partnership with the electric vehicle charging startup ChargePoint. Shares of the charging company are surging 2.42 percent during the premarket session following the news.

The collaboration will acombine ChargePoint’s charger management software with LG’s EV charging hardware, with commercial solutions expected this summer.

The AC and DC chargers from the South Korean company will be operated by ChargePoint software, expanding ChargePoint’s network of over 306,000 ports.

Future projects include combining ChargePoint’s solutions with LG’s energy storage systems and integrating the LG ThinQ smart home platform with ChargePoint’s Home Flex charger.

Suh Heung-kyu, Global Head of the Electric Vehicle Charging of LG, stated that “there is incredible synergy” between the two companies while reiterating the goal of LG to become a global leader in the EV charging business.
