Kia Unveils Small SUV EV2, Production to Begin Later in Q1

South Korean automaker Kia debuted on Friday its new B-segment SUV EV2 at the Brussels Motor Show.

The EV2 has now become the brand’s smallest and most affordable fully electric vehicle (EV) model as Kia continues to expand its line up.

The Kia EV2 is available in two different versions: a Standard Range and a Long Range variant.

The standard range one is equipped with a 42.2kWh battery providing up to 317 kilometres (197 miles) of range, while the Long Range features a 61kWh unit, offering up to 448 kilometres (278 miles) of range.

The brand led by Ho Sung Song said the model includes features such as EV Route Planner, Plug & Charge and bidirectional V2L (vehicle to load).

The EV2 is expected to be price from approximately €30,000 – equivalent to $35,000 – in Europe. However, pricing details have not been disclosed by Kia.

The Seoul-based brand said it will begin production of the model later this quarter, starting with the standard-range version.

The long-range and GT Line variants are planned to follow later in the year.

“Market launch timings will be announced closer to the start of sales,” Kia stated.

In the UK, the long-range EV2 may qualify for the full UK government grant of £3,750.

The model will be produced in Slovakia and the battery will be imported from Hungary.

Featuring a more compact design, the EV2 measures 4,060 millimeters in length, 1,800 millimeters in width, and 1,575 millimeters in height.

The EV2 will compete directly with models such as the Peugeot E-2008, Skoda Epiq, and VW ID. Cross.

Apart from the EV2’s launch, Kia also showcased the new GT versions of the EV3, the EV4 Hatchback, and the EV5.

“With the Kia EV2, we are expanding the reach of Kia’s electric mobility to customers who want a compact car that still feels spacious, capable and emotionally rewarding,” the company’s President and CEO Ho Sung Song.

“EV2 reflects our commitment to practical innovation — bringing advanced EV technology, thoughtful design and everyday usability into a model created for the way people live and move in cities around the world,” he added.
