On Wednesday, the Australian Infrastructure and Transport Department notified Kia to physically recall all the EV6 delivered in the country since its launch in 2021.
The automaker will now repair all the 3,948 units due to a software issue in the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU).

In a report released on Wednesday, the department says that “a loss of motive power may occur if the warning lights are ignored” which could lead to an accident.

Due to a software issue, the ICCU “may develop an internal fault causing a warning light to illuminate on the instrument cluster and the 12 Volt battery to stop charging” which could result in “a loss of motive power”.
Kia electric vehicle owners are urged to visit authorized dealers to arrange appointments for ICCU software upgrades and inspections. Any necessary replacements will be conducted free of charge.
Together with Hyundai, Kia inked last week a memorandum of understanding with Exide Energy Solutions Ltd to provide batteries for their electric vehicles in India.
