Kia America announced on Tuesday that it will begin offering North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters for its electric vehicles (EVs) starting in early 2025.
With the NACS adapter, customers will have access to Tesla’s 16,500 DC fast chargers across the United States.
In October last year, Kia said that — starting from the last quarter of this year — it plans to build the NACS port into new electric vehicles sold in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
The automaker confirmed that customers purchasing a new 2024 or 2025 Kia EV9 or a 2024 EV6 from September 4, onward will automatically receive the adapter in the coming months
For customers who bought an EV6, EV9, or Niro EV prior to September 4, 2024, Kia plans to offer the adapter for purchase at authorized dealerships at a later date. Full access to NACS fast charging stations is scheduled to begin on January 15, 2025.
Last month, Kia sold 75,217 units, with SUVs accounting for 75 percent of the sales and electrified models making up 18 percent. In July, the company recorded 63,580 units fully electric and hybrid models also accounting for 18 percent.
Four models of its portfolio — Seltos, Sportage, Telluride, and Forte — set individual sales records for the month.
