Saudi Arabia’s own vehicle (EV) brand Ceer signed on Tuesday that entered into a SAR 8.2 billion ($2.18 billion) agreement with Hyundai‘s components manufacturer Transys to supply electric vehicle drive systems (EDS) for its upcoming models.

Last November, the company has begun supplying transmission systems to Volkswagen Group in a $542 million deal.

Conventional EDS configurations use separate motors, inverters, and reduction gears which result in power losses due to connecting cables and spatial constraints. Hyundai Transys’s integrated EDS combines these components into a single, streamlined unit.

The advanced integration reduces both the size and weight of the drive system while enhancing power efficiency.

Hyundai Transys was established in 2019 following the merger of Hyundai Dymos and Hyundai Powertech, two major Hyundai component manufacturing affiliates.

Ceer is a joint venture between the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia and the Taiwanese company Foxconn, with the german brand BMW providing component technology for vehicle development.
