Amazon Ventures into Online Car Sales with New Platform

Written by Collins Eshiet

Amazon, the $2.4 trillion company founded and led by Jeff Bezos, is entering the online car sales market by launching its “Amazon Autos” platform in some U.S. cities. The service will allow customers to find, finance, and purchase new vehicles online from registered dealerships.

In its initial phase, the new platform from the e-commerce giant will sell Hyundai models, facilitating sales through authorized dealerships. The Amazon shop also features listings for BMW and Nissan models, but these vehicles are unavailable for ordering.

The company plans to expand the service to over 48 cities — including San Francisco and Washington — across 23 U.S. states.

Buyers will be able to browse vehicle listings, apply for financing, secure insurance, and arrange delivery, all through the Amazon platform. The service will also include trade-in options, allowing customers to exchange their current vehicles for new ones.

Amazon promises transparent pricing and a step-by-step credit application process designed to simplify financing and highlight available rates and rebates. The platform uses buyers’ postal codes to match them with nearby dealerships, enhancing convenience.
