GM Says Equinox Achieved Best-Ever US Sales for a Non-Tesla EV in July

General Motors said on Monday that its US electric vehicle sales reached a monthly record of over 19,000 units in July, driven by strong demand for the Chevrolet Equinox EV.

The compact SUV accounted for more than 8,500 units, or approximately 45% of GM’s total EV sales, making July not only the best sales month for the Equinox EV but also the highest monthly total ever recorded by a non-Tesla electric vehicle in the United States.

“That’s not just the best US sales month ever for Equinox EV – it is the best ever for a non-Tesla EV in the US,” GM stated.

The Equinox EV starts below $35,000 and offers a range of up to 319 miles.

GM’s EV sales rose 115% year-on-year in July. In the first half of 2025, the Detroit automaker delivered more than 78,000 electric vehicles — more than double the volume recorded in the same period last year.

Chevrolet ended the first half as the second best-selling EV brand in the US, surpassing Ford and Hyundai, and helping GM secure a 12.9% share of the domestic EV market, second only to Tesla — according to Cox Automotive.

GM’s total US vehicle sales rose 7% in the second quarter and 12% in the first half of 2025.

Despite the strong top-line growth, analysts remain cautious.

Bernstein said last week that GM’s second-quarter results “looked fine on paper,” but pointed to deteriorating margins in North America and renewed losses in the EV business, exacerbated by tariffs.

Still, some analysts remain constructive. Bernstein’s Daniel Roeska raised his price target on GM shares to $41 from $36 last week, citing improved visibility on trade-related headwinds.

Deutsche Bank, Barclays, and Bank of America have all trimmed their targets in recent weeks, while Citi and Wells Fargo raised theirs to $61 and $38, respectively.
