Volvo’s Electric Model EX30 Faces Delays and Software Issues

The subcompact electric crossover EX30, Volvo‘s smallest model, is experiencing significant setbacks as it recently became one of the first victims of the US tariff hike on China-made vehicles.

Initially delayed in the U.S. due to the new tariffs — causing the production to move from China to Belgium — the model is now facing additional problems as customers report a series of software issues.

According to the media outlet Autocar, owners of the EX30 have encountered several issues including screens going black, unresponsive steering-wheel buttons, vehicles failing to charge, and emergency braking systems activating without warning.

Additional complaints involve bricked infotainment touchscreens, incorrect information displays, profiles resetting to factory settings, and malfunctioning driver aids.

Despite these issues, Volvo announced today that the EX30 remains on sale in the UK market saying “a very small number of cases in the UK, customers have chosen to exercise their consumer rights to return their cars”. The company has told the UK outlet that the model has been removed from its website configurator “because a 2025-model-year version is due on 8 July”.

A company representative stated, “The EX30 continues to be sold in the UK, and with more than 4,500 units already delivered to customers this year, it is proving popular, backed by a strong order book. In a very small number of cases in the UK, customers have chosen to exercise their consumer rights to return their cars. Volvo Cars strives and continues to support its customers throughout the ownership journey, and overall we continue to be encouraged by the positive feedback we are receiving from owners.”

Following Polestar’s release of its financial results for 2023 last week, Volvo Cars has announced that it expects the total net effect on its financial results to be non-material following the company’s stake in Polestar.
