Geely-backed brand Polestar sold 2,758 vehicles in the UK last month, a new record for the premium EV brand.
According to data published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), September figures nearly tripled from the 729 vehicles registered in August.
When compared to September 2024 — the previous sales record with 2,429 units — figures rose by 13.5%.
The brand has registered 12,630 units from January 1 through September 30, almost doubling from a year ago, when it had sold 6,361 EVs in the first nine months of the year.
Polestar‘s portfolio in the UK includes its Polestar 2 sedan, the Polestar 3 and 4 SUVs and the recently launched Polestar 5 GT.
The EV maker is currently offering discounted prices on its lineup in the country, with its Polestar 2 sedan and Polestar 4 SUV’s starting prices lowered by £2,000 (around $2,700) to £43,160 ($58,000) and £58,000 ($78,000) respectively.
Last week, the brand has announced a new iteration of its Polestar 3 SUV, introducing several upgrades on performance, charging and processing power.
According to the EV maker, the upgraded Polestar 3 will start being delivered in the UK, “due to high demand and the previous model year being sold out in that market.”
The British website, now updated to feature the new version of the Polestar 3, lists the starting price at £69,990 ($93,500), with an estimated delivery time of five to six months.
Previously, the Polestar 3 SUV was priced from £67,910, equivalent to $91,400.
Last month, the Gothenburg-based company debuted its Polestar 5 four-door performance Grand Tourer, at Germany’s IAA Auto Show.
The vehicle is priced from £89,500.
Polestar currently has a seasonal offering of £2,000 off the vehicle list price, for its models 2, 3 and 4. The offer is valid until December 31.
In August, the UK Government launched a £650 million ($873 million) Electric Car Grant Program, as part of its Plan for Change.
The program is set to run until 2028/2029 and will offer discounts up until £3,750 for EV models priced under £37,000, based on the sustainability of vehicle manufacturing.
According to the Government, it is not the consumer, but the seller who must apply for the grant and include it as a discount in the purchase price.
Over 35 models in the UK qualify for a discount of up to £1,500 already. However, Polestar models are not yet included in the list.
Volkswagen remained the best-selling brand in the country, with 25,321 vehicles registered in September alone.
Regarding new energy vehicle (NEV) brands, Chinese giant BYD reached a new monthly record last month, with 11,271 hybrid and fully electric vehicles registered.
Pure EV maker Tesla sold 7,993 vehicles, a new high in monthly sales year to date.
The figures represent a tenfold increase from September 2024.
XPeng, which entered the country in February, also reached a new record with 281 vehicles sold last month.
