Polestar Sells 79 Cars in Switzerland in April, Year to Date Sales Up 259%

Polestar sold 79 vehicles in Switzerland in April, according to data published Monday by the Association of Official Automobile Importers in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

Sales of the Geely-backed EV maker surged nearly eight-fold from the 10 units registereda year earlier, continuing the brand’s momentum in the market this year.

has registered 327 cars in Switzerland so far in 2025, compared with 91 over the same period in 2024. Polestar ended last year with a total of 603 units sold in the country.

The company launched in the Swiss market five years ago with its fully electric Polestar 2 sedan, now priced from CHF 48,900 ($59,400). Its newer models, the coupe-style Polestar 4 and the larger Polestar 3 SUV, start at CHF 62,900 ($76,400) and CHF 78,800 ($95,700), respectively.

Polestar is currently offering a “spring bonus” of CHF 8,000 ($9,700) and 0.01% leasing on all preconfigured models in Switzerland, according to its local website. The promotion runs through the end of June.

Competitors

Across all powertrains, Switzerland’s best-selling brand was BMW, with 2,080 vehicles — representing 11.1% of the market. It was followed byVolkswagen, which registered 1,981 units (a 10.6% share), Skoda at 1,743 units (9.3%) and Mercedes-Benz with 1,509 (8.1%).

U.S. brand Tesla sold 227 EVs in April, a plunge of nearly 50% from the 450 vehicles sold a year earlier. Year to date, the Elon Musk-led company sold 1,465 vehicles in Switzerland, down 60% — which follows the decline tendency seen all over Europe.

Leapmotor expanded to the Swiss market in late 2024 and registered 171 units year to date, 51 of which were sold in April.

EV Adoption

From a total of 18,664 vehicles sold last month in Switzerland, 3,480 were battery electric vehicles (BEV) — a 18.6% market share.

Hybrids made up the largest portion of the market, with 6,841 vehicles accounting for 36.7% of total sales. Plug-in hybrids (PHEV) were 1,975 of the registered vehicles, representing 10.6%.

April Results

Polestar, which is backed by China’s Geely Holding Group but based in Gothenburg, recorded 535 vehicles in Sweden last month, marking an 11.5% increase from 480 units a year ago.

German registrations totaled 303 vehicles last month, bringing its year to date sales in the country this year to over 1,000 units.

In the UK, April sales surged 82.7% year over year, reaching 859 vehicles. Year to date, Polestar has registered 4,554 vehicles in the UK, a 157.6% increase compared to the same period last year.

The company will release its 2024 annual report on May 14. First-quarter results are also expected this month, though a specific date has not been announced.
