Polestar July Sales in the Netherlands Jump to 179 Units

Polestar sold 179 vehicles in the Netherlands last month, according to data released last Friday by the national association BOVAG.

July figures showed a decline of 58.8% compared to the record 434 vehicles registered in the previous month. However, registrations jumped by 68.9% year over year from 106 units.

This pattern was also seen in several other European markets, including Sweden and Norway, where monthly numbers jumped by 42% and 107%, respectively, compared to the same period a year ago.

In the first seven months of the year, the Geely-backed brand registered 1,356 vehicles in the Dutch market, an increase of 28.2% year over year.

Polestar’s average monthly sales since the year began returned to around 150 vehicles. June was the only month so far this year where sales were significantly higher than 179 units — the second best result year to date.

The Polestar 2 represented 89 of the total units registered. Prices for the sedan start from €44,950 ($52,600) in the Dutch market.

Regarding its SUV lineup, the brand registered 77 units of its coupe Polestar 4, which starts at €59,800 ($70,000).

The most expensive model in its lineup, the Polestar 3, with prices beginning at €79,950 ($93,500), represented 13 of the total vehicles sold.

In July, 28,986 vehicles were sold in the Netherlands. Electric vehicles represented 8,929 of the sales — with a 30.8% market share.

The best-selling brand in the country was Kia across all powertrains. The two main best-selling models were also from the South Korean company, which sold 1,037 Picantos and 813 EV3s.

Kia‘s models outperformed Tesla’s Model Y, which had been the best-selling model in the country in both May and June. In July, the US brand’s SUV accounted for 280 units.

It dropped below the top 5 best-selling EV models in the country.

Tesla registered 443 vehicles in the Dutch market, less than half of the 1,161 vehicles sold a year before.

Regarding Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) brands, BYD led with 300 fully electric and hybrid vehicles, a slight dip of 13 units from July 2024.

XPeng‘s registrations increased 28.3% to 77 vehicles in the Netherlands last month.

Premium EV brand Zeekr, also backed by Geely, registered 144 vehicles, nearly doubling from the 77 units sold a year ago, while Nio‘s sales in the Dutch market halved from 41 to 20 units.
