Polestar EU Sales Rise 13.6% YoY in May Across its Eleven Markets

Polestar, backed by China’s Geely Holding Group and headquartered in Sweden, registered 2,648 vehicles across its eleven European markets.

The records show that the brand had sold 2,332 vehicles a year ago, meaning that registrations increased 13.6% year over year.

Sales across Europe rose 56.4% from April, when the company had reached 1,693 units.

In the UK, Polestar‘s largest market in Europe, it sold 1,174 EVs last month — a sequential increase of 36.7% and a 273.9% surge year over year. Figures from the SMMT showed that May was the company’s second best sales month year to date.

National data showed that the company sold 9 vehicles in Ireland, down 2 units from the 11 registered in April. Sales dropped 67.9% from the 28 units sold a year ago. Polestar entered the Irish market in 2022.

Polestar sold 613 EVs in Sweden last month, according to data from the Swedish Mobility Association. The figures showed a 39% jump year over year (from 441 units) and a 14.6% increase from the 535 electric vehicles recorded in April.

In Norway, the brand recorded 266 units, 20.6% down from the 335 sold a year ago. Sales increased sequentially from 228 units.

Polestar sold 198 vehicles in Denmark last month, a 61.7% plunge from the 517 units sold a year ago, while increasing by 13.8% from April’s 174 EVs.

The brand sold 94 vehicles in Finland last month, two units above April’s figures. Compared to May 2024, registrations tripled (from 33 units), according to official national data.

The EV maker registered 240 vehicles in Germany last month, the KBA showed. Polestar registrations dropped 42% year over year (414 EVs) and 21% from the previous month (303 units).

The brand sold 134 vehicles last month in the Dutch market, its first sequential decline in 2025. The figures represented a 18.3% drop from a year ago. Swiss sales represented 130 units in May, a 261.1% surge from the 36 vehicles sold a year ago, and up from the 179 EVs in April.

According to Portuguese national data, Polestar registered 27 vehicles in the country last month, up 237.5% year over year (from 8 EVs). The figures were one unit below the units sold in April.

In Spain, the EV maker listed 58, ten units up from the 48 units sold in April. Data from EU-EV showed that Polestar had sold 15 units in May 2024, meaning it nearly tripled its sales in the country year over year.

In the Italian market, and according to EU-EVs, the brand sold 32 vehicles — up from the 22 recorded a year ago.

Polestar reaffirmed last month that it plans to enter the French market this summer, with Stéphane Le Guevel as the country chief.

The brand plans to grow its European retail footprint to more than 180 locations by 2027.

Earlier this week, the company announced that four members of its Board of Directors will step down at the upcoming Annual General Meeting, on June 30.
