Competitors
Kia was Netherlands’ best-selling brand across all powertrains, with over 3,000 registrations, and its recently launched model EV3 was not only the best-selling EV but also the best-selling model overall, with nearly 900 units sold.
Tesla‘s sales fell across several key European markets and the Netherlands was no exception. Registrations dropped to 382 vehicles, a 74% plunge year over year. The U.S. company led by Elon Musk had been the best-selling brand in the Dutch market in March.
BYD is leading Chinese brands sales in the Dutch market in April, with 268 new energy vehicles (NEV) sold. XPeng follows Polestar, as the Guangzhou-based brand registered 105 vehicles last month.
Zeekr listed 80 units, an increase of 29% from last April. Nio, however, saw its weekest month in sales in the Netherlands, with only 2 EVs.
EV Adoption
In April, 27,157 vehicles were registered in the Netherlands, with over 22,500 of them being electrified, representing about 83% of the total.
Hybrids made up the largest share at 49.1%, with 13,329 vehicles, while fully electric vehicles accounted for 33.9% — as the country’s EV sales reached 9,206 units.
Global Results
Polestar delivered “approximately 12,304” vehicles globally in the first three months of the year, a soar of 76% year over year.
The carmaker plans to expand its European retail network to over 180 locations by 2027. It was banned in France in 2022 due to a trademark dispute with Citroën over the similar logo design. The brand aims to arrive in the French market this summer, through Volvo.
According to Motor Intelligence, the company sold 460 vehicles in the U.S. last month, slightly up 2% year over year. As tariffs hit the U.S. market, the company removed the option to configure its best-seller Polestar 2 sedan from the website.
Earlier this week, Polestar announced that it would delay would delay its 2024 annual report to “before or on May 14”, after originally stating it would be released in April.
According to a statement, the company “continues to implement further efficiencies across the organization” aiming to reduce costs.
