Polestar Begins Polestar 4 Deliveries in US, Canada Amid Mounting Pressure

Polestar announced on Monday that deliveries of the Polestar 4 have begun in the United States and Canada, half a year after it introduced the 2026 model year in both countries.

In June, when orders for the model opened with a starting price of $56,400, the struggling EV maker said that the first customer deliveries were expected “this fall.”

Last week, Polestar announced that customers would be able to test drive the new model in several Polestar Spaces from December 16.

The first Polestar 4 was delivered in Miami, where a new Polestar Space opened last week.

According to the company, the location “was previously a brand experience center for Polestar, that now offers sales and service to customers.”

Although the Polestar 4 launched in the US in April 2024, earlier versions were never delivered to the market.

As a result, customers who placed reservations for those iterations will instead receive the 2026 model year, with their original pricing unaltered, the brand guaranteed.

North American Portfolio

Rick Bryant, Head of Polestar North America, said on Monday that the “Polestar 4 plays a pivotal role in our brand’s lineup alongside the built-in-the-US Polestar 3.”

The Polestar 3 is built in Volvo’s plant in South Carolina.

While most of its production is based in China, Polestar‘s CEO Michael Lohscheller confirmed last month that production of the Polestar 4 has also started in South Korea.

The factory in Busan will supply North American markets.

“This now gives Polestar two unique SUV offerings available to North American customers for immediate delivery,” Bryant added.

The comment confirms that the Polestar 2, produced in Taizhou and Chengdu, will not be returning to the US portfolio soon, after orders were suspended in April in the wake of the US tariffs on China.

As of December, the company has sold all Polestar 2 inventory, so customers can only buy pre-owned units.

Sales estimates from Motor Intelligence published earlier this month showed that Polestar sold 340 vehicles in the US last month, marking the fifth consecutive month of a year-over-year decline.

The EV maker has sold 5,367 vehicles in the US market from January 1 to November 30, which indicates a year-over-year drop of 28.2%.

As Motor Intelligence does not publish a breakdown by model, only separating “cars” from “trucks” (which include SUVs), it is unclear how many of these units were Polestar 3s or Polestar 4s.

The model was unveiled on the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2023, with production starting in China later that year.

European deliveries of the Polestar 4 started in the third quarter of 2024 — in Germany, Norway and Sweden.

In Germany, the model is priced from €66,600, equivalent to about $75,500.

Last month, the Polestar 4 represented 256 out of 393 vehicles sold by the brand in Europe’s largest market — about 65%.

In Sweden, where it is headquartered, the company registered 283 Polestar 4s in a total of 440 vehicles (64%); in the Dutch market, the model accounted for 117 out of 277 units (42%).

In China, on the other hand, Polestar 4 sales have plunged in the first ten months of the year, as the company struggles with increased competition in the market.

In October, Polestar closed its last physical store in China.

The company’s US-listed shares hit a new all-time low of $11.75 on Thursday — which would have been $0.39 before the 1-for-30 reverse stock split that took effect a day before.

Later that day, Polestar shares closed at $12.01, down nearly 15%, extending losses from a 22% drop on Wednesday.

The stock rebounded by 19% to $14.33 on Friday.
