Geely-backed Polestar announced on Monday that it has partnered with Australian Olympic champion swimmer Kyle Chalmers, as part of its efforts to grow brand awareness across the globe.
“Kyle has traded his ute for a Polestar 4 Long range Dual motor Performance, finished in gold to celebrate his achievements in the pool,” the brand said on Monday.
Chalmers is a nine-time Olympic medallist, Commonwealth Games medallist, World Cup medallist, and world record holder.
Scott Maynard, Polestar‘s country chief in Australia, said the company is “proud to be partnering with a young Australian athlete determined to make a difference,” as “Kyle’s values are closely aligned with those of Polestar. ”
Early last month, Polestar became the official mobility partner and one of the main sponsors of the German football club Borussia Dortmund for the next three seasons.
According to the club, the EV maker is “supplying a fleet of 60 vehicles” to Borussia.
“In the future, the vehicles will be driven by the team, management, and club representatives,” Dortmund added.
Although the value of the agreement was not published by any of the involved, German outlet Kicker reported that the club will receive €5 million ($5.85 million) annually through this partnership.
Other premium brands have started to join forces with public figures in an aim to raise brand awareness.
It is the case of US EV maker Lucid Motors, which has appointed Timothée Chalamet as their first Global Brand Ambassador.
According to data from the Australian platform Electric Vehicle Council (EVC), Polestar sales in the country more than doubled year over year in July, from 103 to 230 electric vehicles.
From those, 141 were Polestar 2 sedans, while the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 SUVs accounted for 3 and 86 units, respectively.
The Polestar 2 is built at Geely’s Luqiao factory in Zhejiang since 2020 and then shipped to the country.
The 2026 version of the vehicle was introduced last month in the country, priced from AU$62,400, equivalent to $40,500.
The Polestar 3, the company’s most expensive model, is produced both in Chengdu, China, and in Volvo’s South Carolina plant in the US. In Australia, It is priced from AU$118,420, equivalent to $76,880.
The Polestar 4, assembled in Hangzhou Bay, China, is priced from AU$78,500 — about $51,400. The brand is offering a $5,000 contribution toward the purchased of any inventory unit of the SUV, purchased until September 30 and delivered by October 31.
From January 1 to July 31, the EV maker registered 1,403 units in Australia. August date has not yet been published.
Last month, Polestar opened a new test drive and delivery centre in Canberra, Australia, as part of the strategy shift announced earlier this year to sell through local dealerships.
The company stated it is “on track” to increase the number of its retail spaces by 75% before the end of 2026.
