Lucid Motors is about to launch its second model, a three-row sports utility vehicle named Gravity which will be priced at under $80,000.
Besides the recently revamped Rivian R1S, which starts from $77,700, the company led by Peter Rawlinson was expecting to have a competitor coming from Detroit a few months after Gravity started being mass-produced in Arizona.
However, Ford stated last April that, “despite continuing to invest in EVs”, it would postpone the production of the three-row SUV at a plant in Canada to 2027 from its initial plan of 2025.
In the latest update on Wednesday, Ford went further and adjusted — again — its EV strategy scrapping completely the project of developing a fully electric sport utility vehicle.
Bank of America commented on the adjustments from the Detroit automaker saying they aim to “improve the profitability and capital efficiency” of the company’s transition from ICE to New Energy (hybrid plus fully electric) vehicles.
In an interview with Yahoo Finance, Rawlinson stated that the EV maker has ‘taken the mantle from Tesla’ as the company led by Elon Musk has become ‘distracted.’
In mid-July, Rawlinson stated that the endorsement from Musk to Trump in the presidential elections is another salient example of his level of distraction” adding that Lucid is “four years ahead of Tesla.”
