Ford Sees Sharp Rise in BlueCruise Adoption as Hands-Free Driving Expands

Ford Motor Co. said on Tuesday that its advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), BlueCruise, recorded a surge in usage in the United States last year.

The Detroit-based automaker said total hands-free miles driven with BlueCruise rose 88% from 2024, while the number of BlueCruise-enabled trips taken by Ford and Lincoln customers increased 50% year on year.

As of January 27, the company reported that the software’s cumulative miles surpassed the 600 million mark worldwide.

Ford said that it expects the number “to only grow in 2026 as BlueCruise debuts on four additional vehicle lines in Europe.”

Currently, the ADAS is equipped in 1.22 million vehicles, including Ford‘s Explorer and Expedition SUVs and the internal combustion engine (ICE) F-150 pickup truck and its battery-electric Lightning version.

It is also available in the Mustang Mach-E crossover SUV and in the entire Lincoln line-up.

The number of vehicles using the software — which is limited to about 130,000 miles of approved highways – surged by 80% in 2025.

Models and States

According to Ford, the F-150, F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E owners led in BlueCruise miles and usage time again last year, maintaining their rankings from 2024.

Owners of the ICE F-150 led the ranking with a total of 118 million miles and 1.6 million hours driven, more than doubling (101%) from 2024.

In particular, customers of the fully electric variant Lightning, drove over 32 million miles using the BlueCruise software, nearly a 60% year-on-year increase.

This growth was due to last year’s implementation of the latest updated version of the ADAS – BlueCruise 1.4 – in the new generation of Ford‘s pickup trucks, and the launch of the first software update for eligible existing owners.

Lincoln Nautilus owners recorded 11.3 million miles and nearly 160,000 hours spent utilizing BlueCruise last year.

The figures represented a nearly 250% year-on-year increase – the largest one out of any Ford or Lincoln series.

In 2025, California, Michigan, Texas, Florida, and Ohio remained the five US states that used BlueCruise the most.

California led across all 50 states for the third consecutive year, with over 23 million BlueCruise miles and more than 370,000 hours driven, representing a 51% increase from 2024.

Future Plans

This year, Ford will roll out the latest updated version of its ADAS, BlueCruise 1.5, which features Automatic Lane Change capability, to the first ICE and hybrid vehicles.

These include the new-generation Ford Explorer and Lincoln‘s Aviator and Nautilus SUVs.

With the new system’s deployment, the automaker expects its usage by the new Lincoln Nautilus consumers to “rise even further in 2026.”

Earlier this month, at CES 2026, Ford announced that BlueCruise is targeting eyes-off capability by 2028.

The Level 3 driving automation system will be introduced on the Detroit-based automaker’s Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform, to debut with a $30,000 electric truck.
