Ford Reports 86% Increase in EV Sales, 42% Surge in Hybrid Sales Across the US

On Wednesday, Ford Motor announced a 6.8% increase in first-quarter U.S. auto sales and a remarkable 86% surge in electric vehicle sales, totaling 20,223 units sold during the first quarter of 2024.

The F-150 Lightning maintained its position as the leading electric pickup truck in America, with 7,743 units delivered. Additionally, sales of the Mustang Mach-E, an electric SUV, soared by 77% year-over-year, reaching 9,589 units handed over after significant price cuts to boost demand.

Hybrid sales surged by 42% in the first quarter, totaling 38,421 vehicles and the company anticipates growth in hybrid sales “with the imminent arrival of additional variants of the new F-150 hybrid at dealerships”. Sales of the Maverick Hybrid soared by 77% compared to the previous year, with 19,660 units sold.

Overall, the Detroit automaker recorded total sales of 508,083 vehicles, compared to 475,906 units in the same period last year, indicating a continuation of the recent upward trend in U.S. vehicle sales.

According to Reuters, Ford plans to produce a new sports-utility vehicle at its assembly plant in Valencia, Spain. The company stated, “We are closely observing the developments in the European markets to identify opportunities for expanding our current product lineup.”
