BYD‘s upcoming sedan model – Seal 08 – was spotted on Monday being transported in China, images shared on the social media platform Xiaohongshu showed.
The new flagship model in the Shenzhen-based automaker’s Ocean lineup is set to debut later this quarter in China, alongside the Sealion 08 SUV.
Both models had been announced at BYD‘s ‘Ocean Day’ event in mid-December.
The sedan was spotted covered with a camouflage wrap, printed with a wave texture and the “OCEAN 8” lettering.
The Seal 08 is set to be priced between 200,000 yuan and 300,000 yuan, equivalent to a range of $28,700—$43,000.
According to local reports, the model is expected to be over 4.9 meters long and feature a wheelbase of around 3.o meters.
The Seal 08 is anticipated to be offered in both fully electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains.
Ocean and Dynasty are the two main series of the Wang Chuanfu-led company.
In 2025, BYD sold 2.22 million vehicles of the Ocean lineup, up 14.1% from the 2024 figures.
European Line-up
The Seal 08 will become the newest addition to BYD‘s sedan portfolio in China, with the European launch still not confirmed.
The European portfolio includes the fully-electric BYD Seal, equipped with an 82.5 kWh battery which results in a WLTP range of up to 570 km (354 miles). The sedan is priced from €41,990 in the Dutch market, equivalent $49,100.
Integrated in the Seal series, the Seal 6 DM-i and Seal 5 DM-i are both PHEV sedans.
The Seal 6 DM-i is already available in multiple markets worldwide, including in Europe – starting from €42,990 ($50,200) –, whereas the Seal 5 DM-i is currently only available in China, the Philippines, Poland, and Slovakia.
Meanwhile, the BYD Han is a fully-electric sedan available for purchase in several international markets, but not in Europe.
Last year, the brand launched its cheapest model in the European markets.
Known as BYD Seagull in China and as Dolphin Surf in the Old Continent, the model starts at €37,190 ($43,400) and will soon be produced at BYD’s Hungarian factory, allowing the company to avoid the extra tariffs imposed by the European Commission in October 2024.
BYD’s 2025 Performance
BYD sold a total of 4,602,436 new energy vehicles (NEVs) globally last year, representing a year-over-year rise of 7.7%.
However, the Chinese giant initially wasn’t able to meet its initial target of 5.5 million units for 2025, which was trimmed down to 4.6 million units in September.
In the last month of 2025, BYD registered 420,398 fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
Therefore, figures decreased 12.4% from November’s and 18.3% compared to December 2024.
