Chinese EV giant, BYD, is preparing to launch their flagship electric SUV under its sub-brand Denza.
The N9 model targets Li Auto L9 and Aito M9 large SUVs and the first official pictures were shared on Chinese social media this week.
Zhao Changjiang, General Manager of Denza, wrote on Weibo that the model be “nearly 5.3 meters long” and equipped with the new operating system (OS) Yi Sanfang technology.
“I’ve been urged for updates, and today it has finally arrived! I want to clarify two points: first, the Denza N9 is nearly 5.3 meters long; second, it will feature Yisanfang technology, which has undergone rigorous testing and is an SUV that competitors won’t be able to catch up within five years,” Changjiang wrote.
The OS was first used in action on the BYD Denza Z9GT, which was launched earlier this month.
More details from Zhao Changjiang’s Weibo post show that while the coming Denza N9 will be a luxury SUV, it will also pack some power for a proper off-road driving experience.
Despite being in spy mode, it is clear that this will be a 7-seater SUV bringing some design changes in comparison with the already existing BYD Denza N7 and N8, both of which are midsized crossover SUVs.
More details on this soon-to-launch vehicle will be available in the coming weeks as BYD reveals more information on the next entry into the Denza luxury vehicle line-up.
At the pre-sale launch event of the Denza Z9 GT, BYD‘s Chairman Wang Chuanfu defended that Denza —the subbrand created together with Daimler nearly 15 years ago — was the very first new energy vehicle (NEV) force in the country.
BYD formed a joint venture with Daimler in 2010 to launch the brand Denza. However, the German automaker has just sold its ownership and Denza is now fully owned by BYD.
Denza presented its first NEV concept model at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2012.
