BYD said on Sunday it sold 300,538 vehicles in January, marking a 47.5% increase from a year earlier. Of these, 296,446 were passenger vehicles.
Sales of passenger vehicles outside China reached an all-time high of 66,336 units, up 83.4% year-on-year, nearly doubling from January 2024.
The Dynasty and Ocean series accounted for 278,221 units, up 50.3% from the previous year. Sales at BYD’s sub-brands also grew, with Fangchengbao delivering 6,219 vehicles, an increase of 19.5%, while Denza’s sales rose 29.2% to 11,720 units. Yangwang, which offers the U9 supercar and the fully electric U8 SUV, sold 286 units.
BYD has been expanding its global manufacturing footprint, opening its first electric vehicle factory in Thailand in July 2024, the company’s first production facility in Southeast Asia. The plant is expected to produce 150,000 vehicles per year, including plug-in hybrids.
The company also plans to complete a $1 billion manufacturing plant in Indonesia by the end of this year, with an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles for both domestic and export markets.
BYD’s Denza brand is preparing to launch its first station wagon model, with road testing already underway in China. Several images of the BYD Seal 06 Wagon were shared on social media last month, as recently reported by EV.
The upcoming plug-in hybrid will be the wagon variant of the BYD Seal 06 DM-i and will join the Seal 06 GT electric crossover as the third model in the Seal 06 lineup.
BYD sales increased more than 41% to about 4.27 million vehicles in 2024. As the company continued its global expansion, sales of passenger vehicle sales outside China soared 71.9% to 417,204 units.
