Shenzhen-based BYD disclosed on Sunday that its May sales surged to 331,817 vehicles, with 146,395 units being fully electric. This marked a substantial 38 percent increase from the 240,220 vehicles sold during the same period last year.
Fully electric vehicle sales witnessed a notable 22.4 percent uptick compared to May 2023, while plug-in hybrid vehicles saw a remarkable 54 percent surge, setting a new sales record. Year-to-date sales recorded 1,271,325 units, reflecting a robust 26.80% year-on-year increase.
Chairman Wang Chuanfu personally handed over the inaugural Qin L model units last Thursday, following its debut at the Beijing Auto Show in late April.
Priced between 99,800 to 139,800 RMB, the model offers two variants with an 80-kilometer battery range and three variants with a 120-kilometer battery range, boasting battery capacities of 10.08 kWh and 15.87 kWh, respectively.
Earlier this week, the automaker unveiled a new hybrid powertrain capable of traversing more than 2,000 kilometers (1,250 miles) without recharging or refueling, achieving a record-low fuel consumption of 2.9 liters per 100 kilometers (62.1 miles).
