Chinese automaker BYD announced on Monday its “Intelligent Driving for All” initiative and introduced the “God’s Eye” technology matrix.
The car and battery giant said its safety framework for God’s Eye includes over 1,000 km of autonomous driving with zero takeovers, autonomous emergency braking (AEB) at 100 km/h, and a 99% success rate in valet parking.
The C-tier of the God’s Eye features a triple-camera system and will be equipped on 21 models, spanning price ranges from 70,000 yuan to 200,000 yuan ($9,700–$27,700), including the entry-level Seagull hatchback.
This includes various vehicle series such as Han, Tang, Song, Seal, Sea Lion, Dolphin, and Seagull. The model was launched in 2023 with a starting price of around $12000 in China.
BYD Group’s President Wang Chuanfu said that the A-tier will feature a triple-LiDAR system designed for the models of the sub-brand Yangwang while the B-tier will be a a LiDAR-based system for models of the Denza brand and select BYD models.
The company said the God’s Eye C system integrates front-view triple cameras, 5R12V sensing hardware, and an end-to-end control algorithm.
The automaker claimed it has more than 4.4 million vehicles equipped with L2+ driver assistance have contributed to a large cloud-based automotive dataset.
The God’s Eye C system enables multiple automated functions, including:
-Highway and urban expressway navigation on autopilot, which automates lane keeping, cruise driving, lane changes, and obstacle avoidance.
-Automated valet parking, allowing for self-parking and remote vehicle retrieval.
-Memory navigation on autopilot, which supports commuting routes, manages traffic lights and intersections, and facilitates cooperative lane changes.
BYD said last week it launched its fully electric compact SUV Atto 2 in Europe and the UK.
Founded in 1995, BYD is building its first European passenger car factory in Hungary, the company announced in December 2023, after having expanded to the Hungarian market two months earlier.
BYD’s Global Sales
BYD sold about 4.27 million vehicles in 2024, a 41.26% increase from 2023. In January, sales stood at 300,000 vehicles, up 47.5% year over year. Sales of passenger vehicles outside of China reached a record of 66,336 units, nearly doubling from January 2024.
