Auto giant BYD unveiled its third electric vehicle (EV), the SEAL, in Japan on Tuesday. The sedan, with prices starting at 5.28 million yen ($33,110), follows the previously launched Dolphin and SUV Atto 3. The release was announced at a press conference in Tokyo.

The all-wheel-drive (AWD) version, priced at 6.05 million yen, offers a driving range of 575 kilometers. Deliveries are anticipated by the end of July for the base model and the end of August for the AWD version.

The sedan, launched in China in 2022, is currently available in around 40 countries including Europe and Latin America, with sales reaching more than 230,000 units, the company said on Tuesday.

Atsuki Tofukuji, president of BYD Auto Japan, described the SEAL as an “e-sport sedan” and expressed confidence that its launch would significantly boost sales in the third and fourth quarters of the year.
