BYD Delivers First Electric Trucks in Spain

Chinese giant BYD delivered on Tuesday its first two fully electric ETM6 trucks to the German logistics company Dachser for its operations in Spain.

The Kempten-based firm continues to electrify its fleet in the country and on the Old Continent, which is “a key pillar of [its] sustainability strategy”, Dachser’s Team Leader Energy Management & Sustainability Alberto Gil stated.

The delivered units will operate in Barcelona and Valencia, “two strategic logistics hubs” within Dachser’s Spanish distribution network, according to local automotive outlet Transporte3.

Both companies have been working together since last September, subjecting the ETM6 to several tests “under real operating conditions,” Gil said.

With payload options of 3,810kg or 3,740kg, the 7.5-ton truck is equipped with a 255 kWh battery pack.

It enables a WLTP range of up to 200 kilometers (124 miles) and can be charged from 20% to 100% in two hours.

The model also features lane departure warning, forward collision warning, 360-degree vision, and adaptive cruise control.

BYD described the new trucks’ handover as “an important milestone for BYD Trucks Europe, and especially Spain” in a LinkedIn post, while adding that it marks the “starting point of a collaboration with one of Europe’s leading logistics groups.”

The Chinese giant emphasized that the deal represented the start of a “long-term partnership” aimed at accelerating the transition to “cleaner, smarter logistics across Europe.”

Dachser’s EV Fleet

With a “commitment to low-emission logistics” — as stated by Gil —, Dachser operates over 160 battery electric (BEV) trucks, weighing more than 3.5 tons in Europe, as of October 2025.

Utilized for “both local transport and longer distances”, according to the company, the units are sourced from several brands, including Renault, MAN, Mercedes-Benz, and now BYD.

Back in July 2024, Dachser integrated fifteen fully electric trucks from Renault Trucks in Germany.

In January 2025, the firm welcomed the 100th EV into its food logistics distribution fleet, and, a month later, it introduced twelve MAN eTGX trucks to its portfolio.

The company added fifteen Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 units in July 2025, which were set to be utilized in Hamburg, Dortmund, and other German cities for long-distance transport in its general cargo network.

In the same month, Dachser’s Iberian division began testing the same model in major Spanish cities, positioning itself as a pioneer in the matter.

Sales in Spain

BYD was the best-selling brand in Spain across fully electric and hybrid models in January, selling 1,962 vehicles.

The figures jumped 64.6% compared to January 2025, when 1,192 units were registered.

As a result, the Chinese giant reached a market share of 13.6%.

While plug-in hybrid electric vehicles’ (PHEV) sales more than doubled (136.1%) year-on-year, registrations of BEVs rose by 29.7% to 1,039 units.

Fully electric models represented 53.0% of the brand’s January sales.

According to data released by the platform EU-EVsBYD sold a total of 15,857 fully electric vehicles in Spain last year — up fivefold from 2024’s 3,801 BEV deliveries.

Currently, the company offers a total of thirteen fully electric and PHEV models in the country, including the hybrid Atto 2 DM-i, which debuted there last November.

The country is also being considered for the brand’s third production plant, after Hungary and Turkey, with Portugal as another option.
