BYD Closes 2024 with 4.27M Sales, Sells Record 514,809 NEVs in December

BYD announced Wednesday that it sold 4,272,145 vehicles in 2024, marking a 41.26% increase from the previous year and surpassing its annual target of 4 million units.

The majority of BYD’s sales in 2024—4,250,370 units—were from its passenger vehicle segment, marking a 41.07% increase compared to the prior year. Meanwhile, passenger vehicle sales outside China soared 71.9% to 417,204 units.

In the last month of the year, the NEV maker sold 514,809 vehicles, a 51% increase year-on-year and a 1.6% rise month-on-month, setting a new monthly sales record for the company. For the third consecutive month, BYD sold over half a million NEVs.

Battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales stood at 207,734 units in December, up 8.9% year-on-year and 4.88% month-on-month.

Meanwhile, plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) sales soared to 301,706 units, marking a 101.91% year-on-year increase despite a slight 1.38% decline from the previous month. PHEVs accounted for 59.22% of BYD’s passenger car sales for the month.

The latest catalog of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revealed BYD’s upcoming SUV, the plug-in hybrid SEALION 07 DM-i. The model is expected to start being delivered in China in the first half of this year.
